Discover Italy's capital with this special excursion to Rome for cruise passengers.
From the port of Civitavecchia, our team of staff will be identified with a SHORE2SHORE© sign.

From the port of Civitavecchia, we will travel by coach to Rome (without a guide) on a journey lasting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, passing through Campina, north of Rome.

The first stop will be to meet our official guide, who will accompany us throughout this tour, visiting the beauties of the ‘eternal city’.
Leaving our transport, we will continue the visit on foot

Passing through the Porta del Popolo, we will stop at the square of the same name.
We will admire the Flaminio Obelisk, one of the 13 obelisks in Rome.
The guide will tell us the history of this magnificent square, symbol of the eternal city, of the Fountain of Neptune and of the three churches: Santa Maria del Popolo, Santa Maria dei Miracoli and Santa Maria in Montesanto; the latter, also known as the Church of the Artists, where the funerals of famous Italians are held.

Continuing on foot along Via del Corso, an important street in the historic centre, we will find numerous noble palaces and churches. We will arrive at Piazza di Spagna, one of the most famous squares in Rome, home to the Baroque-style Fontana della Barcaccia and the monumental Steps of Trinità dei Monti. We will pass by the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See.

Our route continues towards Piazza di Trevi, to the Fontana di Trevi. Take the opportunity to admire this wonderful wishing fountain, not forgetting to throw in a coin and make a wish to return to Rome again.

Leaving Baroque Rome behind, we will walk through the typical alleys of the historic centre, admiring the Basilica of the Holy Apostles (external visit) from the Byzantine era, until we reach Piazza Venezia, the urban centre of the city that houses the majestic National Monument to Victor Emmanuel II - the Vittoriano (in Italian Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II or Altare della Patria or Il Vittoriano), initially designed to celebrate the unification of the nation and later dedicated to those who fell in the wars.
Ask the guide to tell you the story of the dinners inside the horse sculpture, you will certainly find it very curious and intriguing.

Here you can also see Emperor Trajan's Column.

Continuing along the magnificent Via dei Fori Imperiali, with the remains of Rome's glorious past, we arrive at the Colosseum, the symbol of the city. Here you can fully enjoy an exterior tour and discover its secrets. It will be a perfect opportunity to take memorable photos of your visit to Rome.

Our tour continues towards Piazza della Rotonda, where the Pantheon stands (external visit).
Leaving this ancient Roman temple behind, we arrive at Piazza Navona, the most imposing of the 15th-century squares. The Fountain of the Four Rivers, located in the centre of the majestic square, is a wonderful example of Baroque architecture in white marble.

From here, we will cross the Roman-era neighbourhood of Campo Marzio and walk along Via di Ripetta until we reach our transport back to the port of Civitavecchia, with enough time to board your ship after enjoying a full day and moments suspended in ‘time’ in the city considered by many to be the ‘più bella del mondo’ (most beautiful in the world).

As this is a more difficult tour, it is not recommended for people with reduced mobility, those travelling in wheelchairs, or even those travelling with very young children, due to the long distances involved.
  • Appropriate clothing is required to enter the places of worship to be visited.
  • We recommend wearing comfortable footwear.
  • 15/08, 25/04 and 02/06 are public holidays, and although some monuments are open, shops may be closed. On 02/06, the centre of Rome will be closed for a few hours.
  • Public holidays: 1 January, 6 January, 18 April, 25 April, 1 May, 2 June, 15 August, 19 September and 7 December.
